If a pastor is to be wholly devoted to the ministry of the word–prayer, study, preparation, and presentation of Scripture–how can he love his family well? Is it biblical for him to be in business, invest in stocks, or manage real-estate? Should he also go to school? What do people mean when they say, “My pastor is a really good preacher/teacher but not a great pastor,” or, “My pastor is a really great pastor but not a great preacher/teacher”?
In this episode, James and Andrew consider some questions with regard to Paul Washer’s tenth indictment against the modern church. They consider the pastoral office, pastoral focus, pastoral care, and the pastor’s responsibility to immerse himself in prayer, study, preparation, and presentation of the Scriptures instead of dividing his attention among so many things pastors divide their attention among in many local churches.
