Daily Devotional: Genesis 30:25-43

Jacob strikes a deal with Laban to labor for him past the fourteen years he labored in order to marry Leah and Rachel. Laban wants Jacob to stay and continue to work because Jacob brings prosperity. So, Jacob develops a plan to breed Laban’s flock such that Laban does not prosper but Jacob does.

We still see both Laban and Jacob living in sin. Laban selfishly wants to steal more of Jacob’s life. Jacob does not work sincerely for Laban; he instead works against him. Yet, we see the biblical principle of prosperity. Prosperity comes by expertise and hard work, not by playing some kind of heavenly slot-machine. So, we learn to learn and to work with our hands. We pray that God justly blesses the work of our hands.
