I’m in these chains
I look out from these gates
Ashamed of what I’ve been made
These chains on my feet
Causin’ me to bleed
Well, I was born here
Through the cracks in these walls I peer
I want to be free, I want to be free!
I am a slave
In bondage I lay
I’m in these chains
This is my fate
The warden came
Gave me the key to these chains
Now free from the brace I make my escape
There, a master was waiting
The land of the free enslaved me
I want to be free, I want to be free!
I am a slave
In bondage I lay
I’m in these chains
This is my fate
There’s a statue in the east
Lady Liberty
Her torch was bright, now tarnished and green
How can I be free, from the chains, and my fate, and these gates, oh I yearn to get paid but for now I’m a slave…
I am a slave
In bondage I lay
I’m in these chains
This is my fate
