Daily Devotional: Exodus 12:33-41

Go back and read Genesis 15:13. God predicted that Abraham’s descendants would be strangers in a land not their own for 400 years. It would be 30 years until Isaac was born and 400 to the day before the Israelite release from Egypt–430 years exactly. It is a date the Israelites longed for. In this passage, we see that the Israelites are not prepared even though they knew the exact date prophesied and saw the signs leading up to it. They had not gathered provision. They did not save wealth to bring with them. They did not believe enough in the promise of God to prepare. Yet, God provides for them like He predicted in Genesis 15:14. They plunder the Egyptians, without violence, and have food for the pilgrimage to Canaan. God is faithful to His own promises even when His people are ill prepared. I recommend being as prepared as possible for the work of God in our lives, nations, and world. If we are not, know that God is. When we are not prudent, God has worked all things together to accomplish His good purposes in and through us.
